Amongst the pile of dress watches, digital watches and heart-rate monitors in the drawer, lay a 1993-model Swatch Irony with a shrivelled leather strap that was in dire need of a change. Swatch did stock replacement straps for that model, but in only three colours – a rather odd shade of yellow-brown, a somewhat gloomy black, and a clean, bright white.
A dozen ideas started swirling in my head as the technician popped on the new white straps. At home, I grabbed three sizes of Sharpie markers, and the result was… a total mess made out of a perfectly nice set of clean white straps! 😀
I do have some favourite bits – the stylised laced-up shoe at the tip, “42.195” on the ‘keeper’ (the loop), and the words “Go! Hills!” that appears within the buckle when the watch is worn (this was, of course, customised to my fit, heh heh).
It doesn’t get more ‘limited edition’ than this!
