Looking forward to SCKLM 2016!

It’s awesome to see the Standard Chartered KL Marathon (SCKLM) return with a bang for its 8th year! After being ‘hazed out’ in October 2015 (and not before it went through a date change ordeal that runners would recall), 7 August 2016 is the date set in runners’ diaries for this year’s edition of the annual landmark event.

Boy were we glad to see the haze go away! – Something I drew last year.

Participants of the SCKLM 2015 were offered priority to register for the 2016 edition of the race, a move that was warmly received, as approximately 40% of the participants took up this opportunity. Once registration was opened to the general public in mid-April, the remaining race slots were taken up within a few days.

Interested participants of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon will still be able to be part of SCKLM 2016 through the following ways:

  • Corporate Challenge – The 10 KM category is still available for registrations. All donations from the race will go to the Standard Chartered KL Marathon beneficiaries.
  • ‘Run For A Reason’ – Limited slots are still available for individuals who are looking to raise funds for their selected beneficiaries. Runners will get to set up a fundraising profile page to share with friends, family and the public. Registrants who raise RM500 are entitled to receive an exclusive ‘Run For A Reason’ T-shirt from one of SCKLM’s official charity partners.

  • Can’t run this year? Support the ‘Run For A Reason’ runners – Pick a charity that you would like to support, and make a donation to the ‘Run For A Reason’ runners who have pledged their commitment to raise funds for their chosen beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries participating in the SCKLM 2016 ‘Run For A Reason’ initiative are Standard Chartered Foundation, Hospis Malaysia, Yayasan Sejahtera and IJN Foundation.

Races will not happen without the work of volunteers. Be an important part of SCKLM 2016 by being a volunteer – more than 1,500 volunteers are needed to help on Raceday and you can be one of them!

Stay tuned to the announcements on Standard Chartered KL Marathon social media for volunteer registrations.

Cheer your friends on!

Do you know someone who will be running at SCKLM 2016? Make their day while adding to the festivities of Malaysia’s premier running event, by getting out there on Raceday as a supporter! It doesn’t matter whether they’re running a 10K, Marathon or a 5K, or if you’re a runner yourself!

Running clinics

If you’ve registered for SCKLM 2016, you may be interested in the schedule of running clinics for the SCKLM 2016. General and Specialised clinics are available, as well as junior running clinics!

There is also a shoe donation campaign associated with the running clinics – for the first 150 pairs of pre-loved shoes (in good condition!) dropped off at the General running clinics, each donor will be entitled to a 20% discount for their next purchase of running shoes at the Adidas Online Store. The campaign will end once 150 pairs of pre-loved shoes have been collected, or at the end of the clinic sessions, whichever comes first.

More information can be found on the Standard Chartered KL Marathon at their website, Facebook page, Twitter, and Instagram.
